YouTube MCP server: upload and schedule videos from Claude or ChatGPT
A YouTube MCP server lets an AI assistant work with YouTube through a standard connection. Most open-source ones read video data and transcripts. SociaHive's hosted server at https://www.sociahive.com/api/mcp uploads and schedules videos to your channel, then reads their analytics. Nothing to install or host.

Is there an official YouTube MCP server?
Google runs official remote MCP servers for its Cloud products and for Google Workspace apps such as Drive, Gmail and Calendar. On 2026-10-19 we found no YouTube server on Google's supported products page, so the servers people use for YouTube today come from the community. Most of them read public data such as search results, video details and transcripts. SociaHive's hosted server works on the publishing side: it uploads and schedules videos to your channel from Claude or ChatGPT, and covers your other social accounts too.

How to connect YouTube to your AI assistant
- 1
Connect your YouTube account to SociaHive
Sign up for SociaHive and connect YouTube under Connected accounts. The 7-day trial needs no card.
- 2
Add the SociaHive MCP server to your AI assistant
Add https://www.sociahive.com/api/mcp as a connector or MCP server in ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor or another MCP client, then sign in with SociaHive.
- 3
Ask for what you want
Type a request such as "Upload this MP4 to my YouTube channel with the title "Studio tour" and a short description: https://example.com/tour.mp4". Anything that goes live asks you to confirm first.
Things to ask about YouTube
Imports the file, then you ask for it to be scheduled or published.
Queues one video for both platforms in a single request.
Lists the week's scheduled videos by day and time.
Returns numbers for videos you posted through SociaHive.
YouTube MCP upload: can Claude or ChatGPT post a video?
Yes, with a server that supports publishing. Claude or ChatGPT can upload a video to your channel through SociaHive's MCP server. You give it a title, a description of up to 5,000 characters, and a video.
The video can be a public link to an MP4 or MOV, which the assistant imports with upload_media_from_url, or a file already in SociaHive. Then it calls create_scheduled_post or schedule_post to pick a time, or publish_post_now to go live. Publishing now always asks you to confirm first, so the assistant cannot post by accident.
Each YouTube post is one video. If you want the same clip on TikTok or Instagram, say so in the same request and it goes to all of them.
Most YouTube MCP servers on GitHub do not upload at all. They are built to search and read. If upload is what you need, check the tool list of any server before you set it up.
Scheduling works on every SociaHive plan. Using it from an AI assistant needs the 7-day trial (no card) or a paid plan.
YouTube MCP server for transcripts and channel data
If you want an assistant to read transcripts, search YouTube or study other channels, you want a read-focused server. SociaHive's is not one.
Open-source servers such as ZubeidHendricks/youtube-mcp-server expose around ten read tools: video details, search, transcripts, channel info and playlist items. You run them yourself and supply a YouTube Data API key. Its README lists no tool that uploads or publishes.
The two kinds of server solve different jobs. A read server helps with research: summarising a talk, finding videos on a topic. A publishing server helps with production: getting your own videos on your channel on time.
Many people use both. Connect a read-only server for research, and SociaHive for scheduling and analytics of the videos you post. Claude and ChatGPT can hold several MCP connections at once.
SociaHive does show analytics, but only for videos published through it. It does not read transcripts, captions, comments or other people's channels.
YouTube limits your AI should know
| Videos per post | One video per post |
|---|---|
| Description | Up to 5,000 characters |
| Video files | MP4 or MOV, from a public link or a file already in SociaHive |
| MCP rate limits | 120 reads and 30 writes per minute, 1,000 calls a day |
What it can't do on YouTube
- Read transcripts or captions of any video
- Search YouTube or read other channels
- Reply to or moderate comments
- Manage playlists or run live streams
- Show YouTube Studio analytics for videos not posted through SociaHive
- Set custom thumbnails or tags for most users yet (rolling out)
Run YouTube from your AI.
The MCP server is in the trial and every paid plan. 7-day free trial. No credit card required.
Connect YouTubeFAQ
Is there an MCP for YouTube?
Yes, several, but they come from the community. Most are open-source servers you run yourself that read videos, search results and transcripts. SociaHive offers a hosted one that uploads and schedules videos to your channel. As of 2026-10-19 we found no YouTube server on Google's own supported products list.
What is MCP and how does it work?
MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is an open standard that lets AI assistants call tools in other apps. The app runs an MCP server that lists what it can do. The assistant picks a tool, sends the request, and shows you the result. It is how Claude or ChatGPT can schedule a video for you.
Is Google using MCP?
Yes. Google publishes official remote MCP servers for Google Cloud products and for Google Workspace apps such as Drive, Gmail and Calendar. We did not find a YouTube server on that supported products page on 2026-10-19.
What is the YouTube MCP server URL for Claude?
For SociaHive, the URL is https://www.sociahive.com/api/mcp. Add it as a custom connector in Claude, sign in with SociaHive, and your YouTube channel is available once it is connected. Setup steps for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and others are on the connect pages. GitHub servers use local commands instead of a URL.
Can the YouTube MCP server read transcripts?
SociaHive's cannot. It posts, schedules and reports analytics for videos you published through it. For transcripts, use an open-source read server such as the ones listed on GitHub or mcpservers.org, and pair it with SociaHive if you also want scheduling.
