Pick one and watch it get built
The best all-in-one tool for social media scheduling plus DM automation is SociaHive if you want comment-to-DM flows and a scheduler for 22 platforms at one flat price starting at $29 a month. Metricool and Vista Social also pair scheduling with DM automation, but price per brand or per profile. Most other schedulers only offer a shared inbox, which lets you reply to messages by hand but does not send a DM when someone comments a keyword.
This guide separates real DM automation from an inbox, compares the tools that do both, and works out what the usual two-tool stack costs. Prices were read from each vendor's own site on October 22, 2026; see Sources.
The usual stack, and what it costs
Most creators and small brands run two tools: a scheduler such as Buffer or Later to publish posts, and a DM tool such as ManyChat, Inro, LinkDM or CreatorFlow to answer comments. Some add Zapier to connect them, which is a third bill.
| Piece | Typical tools | Starting price |
|---|---|---|
| Scheduler | Buffer, Later | Buffer $5 per channel per month billed yearly; Later $18.75 a month billed yearly |
| DM automation | ManyChat, Inro, LinkDM, CreatorFlow | ManyChat Pro from $29 a month, rising per contact; CreatorFlow $15; LinkDM $19; Inro from €12.99 |
| Glue | Zapier | Free for 100 tasks a month; Professional from $19.99 a month billed yearly |
The cost is not only money. Two tools mean two logins, two audiences to keep in sync and two places where a connection can expire.
Inbox is not automation
This is the distinction that matters when you compare tools.
- A shared inbox collects comments and DMs from several networks so a person can reply. Buffer's community inbox, Later's conversations (Growth and Scale plans) and Sprout Social's inbox are examples. Nothing replies unless someone types it.
- Rule-based replies and moderation act on incoming messages: hide, label or assign them. Agorapulse lists automated moderation rules per social profile.
- Comment-to-DM automation watches a post, detects a keyword in a comment and sends the commenter a DM, often with a follow-up flow. This is what ManyChat made popular.
When a scheduler says "inbox", ask whether it can send a message with nobody present.
Tools that do both
| Tool | Starting price | Scheduling | DM automation | Honest caveat |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SociaHive | $29/mo flat | 22 platforms | Comment-to-DM, keyword and Story flows on Instagram, Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp | No Stories or Reels scheduling; Creator automates 1 account |
| Metricool | $20/mo billed yearly | Most major networks | Flows: comments to DMs, keyword DM replies | Per brand; Flows are free "for a limited time" |
| Vista Social | $99/mo monthly, $950 yearly | 15 profiles on Professional | DM automations on comments and DMs | Agency pricing |
| Hootsuite | From $99 per user per month | 10 accounts on Standard | Automated DM replies listed on Professional | Per-user billing |
| CreatorFlow | Free; Pro $15/mo | Not on its page | Instagram comment-to-DM | DM tool only |
SociaHive
SociaHive schedules to 22 platforms and runs automation on Instagram, Facebook, Messenger and WhatsApp (Telegram on Pro). Unlimited contacts on every plan, so the price does not move with your audience. The free plan covers up to 3 accounts and 30 scheduled posts a month; every signup gets a 7-day trial with automation. You can also run it from Claude or ChatGPT through the MCP server.
Limits to know: Creator ($29) automates one account, Studio ($79) four. LinkedIn, X and TikTok are scheduling only. See comment-to-DM and the ManyChat comparison; moving from ManyChat is covered on the migration page.
Metricool
Metricool is a scheduler and analytics tool first. Its pricing page lists Flows (turn comments into DMs, reply to DMs by keyword, turn Story replies into DMs), included on Starter and above at no extra cost for a limited time. Free covers one brand and 20 posts a month without Flows. Starter is $20 a month billed yearly for up to 5 brands. See Metricool alternatives.
Vista Social
Vista Social lists DM Automations that "respond to every comment and DM on autopilot", with advanced lead-collection flows on Advanced. Professional is $99 a month ($950 yearly) for 15 profiles and 10,000 DM contacts. It suits agencies more than solo creators.

Free plan, no card required. Your automation lands as a draft — nothing runs until you turn it on. Works with free Instagram Professional accounts (Business or Creator) — switching from a personal profile takes a minute in the Instagram app.
Hootsuite
Hootsuite lists automated inbox replies and DM responses on Professional, with Standard offering a unified inbox. Per-user pricing starts at $99. See Hootsuite alternatives.
Schedulers that stop at the inbox
- Buffer: community inbox and AI reply suggestions, no automated DMs (Buffer pricing)
- Later: social inbox on Growth and above, automation not described
- SocialBee: Engage module for DMs and comments on Facebook and Instagram, automation not described
- Sprout Social: inbox and AI features, no DM automation described
- Publer and Postiz: scheduling only on their pricing pages
DM tools without a scheduler
Inro (Instagram, from €12.99), LinkDM (Instagram and Facebook, from $19) and CreatorFlow (Instagram, from $15) are cheap and focused. Their pages do not describe a feed-post scheduler, so you would still need a second tool. See the ManyChat alternatives roundup.
Worked example: two tools versus one
A creator with 5 channels, one Instagram account to automate and about 5,000 contacts:
| Setup | Monthly cost |
|---|---|
| Buffer Essentials, 5 channels, billed yearly | $25 |
| ManyChat Pro at 5,000 contacts (roughly $65, from our ManyChat pricing post; not re-checked today) | $65 |
| Two-tool total | about $90 |
| SociaHive Creator, flat (billed monthly) | $29 |
With a smaller list the gap narrows: Buffer's $25 plus ManyChat Pro's $29 starting price is $54. Swap ManyChat for CreatorFlow and the pair is $40, but you still have two tools. Add Zapier Professional ($19.99 yearly) and it grows. Note that SociaHive's Creator plan automates one account, so several automated accounts need Studio at $79.
How to choose
- One brand, mostly Instagram, want one bill: SociaHive
- Analytics first, some DM automation: Metricool
- Agency with many clients: Vista Social or Hootsuite
- Only DMs, no scheduling: Inro, LinkDM or CreatorFlow
- Only scheduling: Buffer alternatives
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the best all-in-one tool for social media scheduling plus DM automation?
SociaHive is the best fit for creators and small brands: scheduling to 22 platforms and Instagram, Facebook, Messenger and WhatsApp automation from $29 a month, with unlimited contacts. Metricool and Vista Social are alternatives that also pair the two.
Does Buffer automate DMs?
No. Buffer's pricing page describes a community inbox, AI reply suggestions and saved replies, but not automated DMs.
Is a social inbox the same as DM automation?
No. An inbox lets people reply by hand. Automation sends a message without someone present, for example a DM triggered by a comment keyword.
Can one tool replace Buffer and ManyChat?
For many small accounts, yes. SociaHive, Metricool and Vista Social combine a scheduler with DM automation. Check platform coverage and per-brand or per-profile limits first.
Can I run it from ChatGPT or Claude?
SociaHive can be operated from Claude or ChatGPT through its MCP server during the trial and on paid plans. Inro also lists an MCP server, and Metricool's free plan lists Metricool MCP.
