Pick one and watch it get built

Yes, you can schedule YouTube Shorts. Upload the Short, open the Visibility step, choose Schedule, pick a date and time, and save. YouTube keeps the video private until then and publishes it on its own. A Short is a video up to 3 minutes long with a square or vertical aspect ratio, so scheduling works the same as for any video.

How to schedule YouTube Shorts in YouTube Studio

Scheduling a Short uses the same upload flow as any video. YouTube's schedule video publish time page documents it in YouTube Studio and in the YouTube app.

  1. Sign in to YouTube Studio on the channel you want to publish on.
  2. Click Create, then Upload videos.
  3. Select a vertical or square video file that is up to 3 minutes long.
  4. Fill in the title, description and other video details.
  5. Click the Schedule card.
  6. Set the date, time and time zone you want.
  7. Click Schedule.

What counts as a YouTube Short in 2026

A video is categorized as a Short when it is up to three minutes long with a square or vertical aspect ratio. YouTube's three-minute Shorts page says this applies to videos uploaded on or after October 15, 2024 on standard channels, and that wider formats such as 16:9 stay long-form.

A wide video will not become a Short just because you schedule it as one, so check the shape before you upload. The safe zone checker shows where interface elements can cover a vertical video.

Can you schedule YouTube Shorts on your phone?

YouTube documents scheduling in YouTube Studio on a computer and, on the same help page, in the YouTube app: the upload steps read "Sign in to YouTube Studio. Or use the YouTube app." The page does not give separate phone-only taps, so look for the Schedule card on the upload screen.

If your app version does not show it, upload from a computer or use a scheduling tool.

Schedule YouTube Shorts with the YouTube API or a scheduler

You can schedule Shorts through the YouTube Data API or a third-party scheduler, and both use the same private-until-publish mechanism. In the API, the video's status.publishAt field sets the publish time, per the YouTube Data API reference. It can be set only when the video's privacy status is private, and a time in the past publishes the video immediately.

For most creators a scheduler is easier than the API. SociaHive's content scheduler uploads YouTube videos from the same composer as its other platforms, with 30 scheduled posts a month on the free plan. YouTube decides whether a video is a Short from its length and shape, so it is uploaded as a regular YouTube video. Look at it in YouTube Studio after you schedule it.

Does scheduling YouTube Shorts affect views?

YouTube does not document that scheduling a video changes how it is recommended, so treat claims of a scheduling boost with caution. Scheduling controls when the video goes public, not how the system ranks it.

What timing can change is who is watching in the first hours. Check the audience activity data in YouTube Studio analytics and schedule near the times your viewers are active. For timing, see the best time to post on YouTube.

Why schedule Shorts at all?

Scheduling lets you batch-create Shorts and publish on a steady rhythm without being at your desk. For a full routine across platforms, see our social media scheduling guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change the time of a scheduled Short?

Yes. In YouTube Studio, open Content, select the video, and open the Visibility dropdown. YouTube says that to change the publish time the visibility must be Private; click Edit draft, then choose the new time under Schedule. Setting the visibility to Public instead publishes the video right away.

What happens to a scheduled Short if my channel gets a strike?

It will not publish during the penalty period. YouTube says that if your account has a Community Guidelines strike, the scheduled video is set to private for the length of the penalty. You then have to reschedule it once the freeze period ends, so check your queue after any strike.

Are YouTube Shorts included in watch hours?

No, Shorts watch time does not count toward the 4,000 public watch hours threshold. YouTube's Partner Program page says Shorts views count only toward the separate option of 10 million qualified Shorts views in 90 days. Both options also need 1,000 subscribers.

How much is paid for 1000 views on YouTube Shorts?

There is no fixed rate. YouTube pools Shorts ad revenue each month, your share depends on your portion of engaged views, and creators keep 45% of their allocated revenue. Starting February 1, 2027, YouTube's page says the Creator Pool also needs at least 10 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days.
