Is there an official WhatsApp MCP server?

Yes. Meta runs "WhatsApp Business Tools" at https://mcp.facebook.com/whatsapp_business_tools. It is a beta aimed at developers on the WhatsApp Business Platform: it manages phone numbers, message templates and webhooks, and it can send messages. It needs a Meta developer sign-in with admin access to a WhatsApp-enabled app. SociaHive is different: nothing to set up on Meta's developer side, and it builds and runs automations plus covers Instagram, Messenger, Telegram and scheduling. It does not send one-off messages.

Can Claude Code be used with WhatsApp MCP?

Yes. Claude Code can connect to any remote MCP server, and both Meta's server and SociaHive's list Claude Code as a supported client. Add the server, sign in, and ask in plain language.

WhatsApp MCP on GitHub: what to know before you use it

The popular GitHub server, lharries/whatsapp-mcp, "connects to your personal WhatsApp account directly via the Whatsapp web multidevice API". You scan a QR code, and it can search your messages and send to people and groups. Messages are stored in a local SQLite database.

That is a different tool from a business automation. It acts as you, on your personal account, from your computer. It is free and you control it.

Risk to weigh. WhatsApp's Terms of Service prohibit gaining or attempting to gain "unauthorized access to our Services or systems," and list "bulk messaging, auto-messaging, auto-dialing" as impermissible. A personal-account bridge is not an official channel, so read the terms before pointing it at an account you care about.

What is a WhatsApp MCP server?

Can I use WhatsApp MCP with ChatGPT?

Is ChatGPT using MCP?

Is MCP just tool calling?

Mostly, but standardized. MCP is an open protocol that tells an AI app which tools a server offers and how to call them, plus sign-in. Any MCP client can then use any MCP server without custom code. The spec is at modelcontextprotocol.io.
