Discord MCP server for Claude, ChatGPT and other AI tools
A Discord MCP server gives an AI assistant tools to work with Discord. SociaHive's hosted server at https://www.sociahive.com/api/mcp lets Claude or ChatGPT write, schedule and publish messages to a Discord channel you connect with a webhook. It posts only. It does not read your server or run a bot.

Is there an official Discord MCP server?
We found none. On 2026-10-19 Discord's developer docs (docs.discord.com) described bots, webhooks and OAuth2, and their llms.txt index listed no MCP server. The "Model Context Protocol" results on discord.com are community invite links, not a Discord product. The Discord MCP servers on GitHub and in directories are community projects, and most run a bot with a token. SociaHive takes the narrower route: a channel webhook, so there is no bot to host and no server access to grant.

Discord MCP server: bot token or webhook?
Most Discord MCP servers sign in with a bot token. SociaHive uses a webhook. The difference decides what the AI can do, and what can go wrong.
Discord defines bot users as "a separate type of user dedicated to automation," authenticated with the bot token from your app's settings. A bot joins your server and, with the right permissions, can read channels, manage roles and moderate. Reading message text also needs the Message Content privileged intent, which you enable in the Developer Portal.
A webhook is smaller. Discord calls webhooks "a low-effort way to post messages to channels in Discord." They need no bot user. A webhook posts to one channel and nothing else.
Which to pick. If you want an assistant that watches a server, summarise threads or moderate, you need a bot server, and its token is a key to your server. If you only need announcements, reminders and updates to go out on time, a webhook is enough, and a leaked URL can only post to one channel.
Discord MCP server on GitHub: what do they do?
The Discord MCP servers on GitHub and in directories such as mcpservers.org are community projects. Most share a shape: you create an application in the Discord Developer Portal, copy its bot token, invite the bot to your server, and run the server on your own machine.
Once running, a typical one lets an AI list channels, read recent messages and send messages. Some add moderation tools. That is useful for community managers, and it is also why you should read what permissions the bot asks for before inviting it.
What they usually do not do is schedule. A message sent through a bot server goes out when the AI calls the tool. To send at 6pm Friday you would need the assistant, or a separate job, to be running at that moment.
SociaHive fills that gap for posting only. Claude Code, Claude or ChatGPT can queue a message for a future time, and SociaHive sends it. Setup steps: Claude Code and ChatGPT. The 7-day trial needs no card.
Discord limits your AI should know
| Channel | One webhook posts to one channel; connect one per channel |
|---|---|
| Message length | Up to 2,000 characters; Discord documents the same limit for a webhook message |
| Attachments | Up to 10 per message: JPEG, PNG, WebP images and MP4, MOV, WebM video |
| File size | 20 MB per file by default |
| Replies | No reply chains and no first comments |
| Review | You can ask the assistant to draft first and read the message before it is scheduled |
What it can't do on Discord
- Read messages, members or DMs in your server.
- Run a bot, slash commands or reactions.
- Moderate: no kicks, bans, role changes or deletes.
- Post to a channel you have not connected with a webhook.
- Show message stats or views.
- Reply in threads or add a first comment.
Run Discord from your AI.
The MCP server is in the trial and every paid plan. 7-day free trial. No credit card required.
Connect DiscordFAQ
Is there an official Discord MCP server?
We found none. Discord's developer docs cover bots, webhooks and OAuth2 and did not list an MCP server when we checked on 2026-10-19. The Discord MCP servers you find on GitHub and in directories are community projects, so check who maintains one and what bot permissions it asks for.
What is a Discord MCP server?
It is a server that gives an AI assistant tools for Discord. Community ones usually run a bot with your token and can read and send messages. SociaHive's hosted server posts and schedules messages to a channel you connect with a webhook.
Does SociaHive need a Discord bot token?
No. You connect a channel with a webhook URL, created in the channel under Edit Channel, Integrations, Webhooks. One webhook posts to one channel. SociaHive does not join your server as a bot and cannot read it.
Can Claude read my Discord messages through SociaHive?
No. SociaHive only posts to the channels you connect. It cannot read messages, members or DMs, run slash commands or moderate. If you want an assistant that reads a server, use a bot-based community server and review its permissions first.
Can I schedule Discord messages with an MCP server?
Yes, with SociaHive. Ask Claude or ChatGPT to write a message and schedule it for a date and time. It goes to the connected channel at that time. MCP access needs the 7-day trial or a paid plan.
