X (Twitter) MCP server: schedule and publish posts from your AI assistant

An X MCP server lets an AI assistant like Claude or ChatGPT work with X on your behalf. SociaHive runs a hosted one at https://www.sociahive.com/api/mcp. Connect it once, then schedule posts, publish them, and check how they did. You host nothing and need no X developer keys.

Is there an official X MCP server?

Yes. X launched a hosted MCP server on 30 June 2026, at api.x.com/mcp. It connects AI tools to the X API using your account permissions, and it can search posts and read data, which SociaHive cannot. You set it up with your own X developer app, and the writes its docs list are bookmarks and Articles, which count against API rate limits. SociaHive is narrower on X: it schedules, publishes and reports on posts, and the same server also covers your other social accounts.

How to connect X to your AI assistant

  1. 1

Connect your X account to SociaHive

Sign up for SociaHive and connect X under Connected accounts. The 7-day trial needs no card.

  2. 2

Add the SociaHive MCP server to your AI assistant

Add https://www.sociahive.com/api/mcp as a connector or MCP server in ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor or another MCP client, then sign in with SociaHive.

  3. 3

    Ask for what you want

Type a request such as "Schedule this tweet for tomorrow at 9am: "We just shipped dark mode."". Anything that goes live asks you to confirm first.

Step-by-step setup: ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor.

Things to ask about X

  • The post is queued for 9am on your X account.

  • One post goes to all three, with the X text under 280 characters.

  • Your Friday queue shifts to Monday at the times you pick.

  • A ranked list with the numbers for each post.

Does Twitter have an MCP server?

Yes. Twitter is now called X, and X launched a hosted MCP server on 30 June 2026. It lives at api.x.com/mcp, and X describes it as connecting MCP tools to the X API with your account's permissions.

It is built for reading and building on X: searching posts, looking up users, trends and news. Before it existed, people ran open-source servers from GitHub, such as the one in X's own xdevplatform/xmcp repository, which needs a Python setup and your own app keys.

SociaHive's server is a different tool for a different job. It does not read X. It handles the publishing side:

  • Write a post in your assistant and schedule it.
  • Publish now, after a confirmation.
  • Check how your posts did.

If you want an assistant to research X, use X's server. If you want it to run your X posting calendar, use ours. Many people connect both.

X MCP server pricing: what does it cost?

X's hosted MCP server itself has no listed price on its docs page. The cost sits in the X API behind it. Its docs mention that an app may need to be on "Pay-per-use" to log in, and that writes count against rate limits. X API posting costs about 1.5 cents a post, and about 20 cents for a post with a link, according to The Next Web. Check X's current pricing before you build on it.

With SociaHive you do not pay X per post. You need a SociaHive trial (7 days, no card) or a paid plan. X is a paid-plan feature: the free plan schedules to other platforms but not to X.

FAQ

Is there an MCP for X?

Yes. X runs a hosted MCP server at api.x.com/mcp, launched 30 June 2026, and there are open-source servers on GitHub. SociaHive also offers a hosted MCP server that schedules and publishes posts to X, and reports on them, without needing an X developer account.

Is there an X MCP server for free?

The servers themselves are free to run or connect, but posting through the X API is billed by X. SociaHive gives you a 7-day trial with no card; after that, posting to X needs a paid plan. The free SociaHive plan does not include X.

Can I use the X MCP server with Claude?

Yes. Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex, Grok and Gemini CLI can all connect to SociaHive at https://www.sociahive.com/api/mcp. Add it as a custom connector, sign in, and ask Claude to schedule a post to X. Setup pages are linked below.

Do I need an X developer account?

Not with SociaHive. You connect your X account once, and SociaHive posts through its own app. X's own MCP server and the open-source ones need your own X developer app and keys, which is more setup but gives you read and search access.

Can the MCP server post threads or reply?

Not for most users today. SociaHive schedules and publishes single posts to X, with up to 4 images or a video. Threads, replies and X Articles are limited or still rolling out, and it cannot read your mentions or send DMs.
