WordPress MCP server: schedule blog posts from Claude or ChatGPT

A WordPress MCP server lets an AI assistant work with a WordPress site through a standard connection. SociaHive's hosted server at https://www.sociahive.com/api/mcp schedules posts to a self-hosted site with an application password, from the same chat that schedules your social posts. There is no plugin to install on your site.

Is there an official WordPress MCP server?

Yes, two. WordPress.com runs a hosted MCP server for its sites, with read and write tools, available on paid plans. The WordPress project publishes the MCP Adapter, an official package that exposes a self-hosted site's registered abilities to AI tools. It is installed as a plugin and needs the Abilities API from WordPress 6.9. Those tools manage a whole site. SociaHive's does one job: it schedules posts to your self-hosted site, next to your other social accounts.

Things to ask about WordPress

  • Queues the post on your WordPress site for that time.

  • Imports the image so the post can use it.

  • Changes the scheduled time without rewriting the post.

  • Lists everything by day and time, blog included.

WordPress MCP without a plugin: how does it work?

SociaHive's WordPress MCP connection needs no plugin on your site. You create an application password in WordPress, add the site to SociaHive, and your assistant can then schedule posts to it through https://www.sociahive.com/api/mcp.

An application password is a WordPress feature. You find it under Users, Profile, Application Passwords. It lets an app sign in as you without your main password, and you can revoke it from the same screen. Your site must run WordPress 5.6 or newer and be reachable over HTTPS.

Each post can carry a title, body, slug, excerpt, categories, tags and a featured image with alt text. Tags that do not exist yet are created for you.

This is different from the official MCP Adapter, which you install on your site as a plugin and which needs the Abilities API from WordPress 6.9. That route gives an assistant wide access to what your site exposes. SociaHive's route is narrower on purpose: posts, scheduled, with the access limited to what an application password for your user can do.

Using it from an AI assistant needs the 7-day trial (no card) or a paid plan.

Can Claude or ChatGPT schedule a WordPress post?

Yes, for a self-hosted WordPress site connected to SociaHive. Ask Claude or ChatGPT to write a post and give it a date and time. It calls create_scheduled_post, and SociaHive makes the post public on your site at that time.

You can also ask it to schedule a draft you already wrote with schedule_post, move the time with update_scheduled_post, or cancel with cancel_scheduled_post. Publishing right away always asks you to confirm first.

WordPress can schedule a post by itself in the editor. Set a future date in the Publish setting and the button changes to Schedule. The AI route helps when you also post to social accounts: one request can queue the blog post and the social posts that point to it.

WordPress.com's hosted MCP server is the better pick if your site is on WordPress.com, since SociaHive connects self-hosted sites only. Claude and ChatGPT can hold several MCP connections at once, so you can use both.

SociaHive does not edit posts after they are published and does not report views.

FAQ

What is the WordPress MCP server?

It is a server that lets an AI assistant call tools on a WordPress site through the Model Context Protocol. There are several: WordPress.com's hosted server, the official MCP Adapter for self-hosted sites, community servers, and SociaHive's hosted server, which schedules posts to a self-hosted site from Claude or ChatGPT.

Is there a free WordPress MCP?

Yes. The official MCP Adapter is free open-source software, and so are many community servers, though you host and set them up yourself. WordPress.com's MCP is included on paid WordPress.com plans. SociaHive offers a 7-day trial with no card, then a paid plan, and scheduling itself works on every plan.

Can Claude connect to WordPress with MCP?

Yes. Add SociaHive's URL, https://www.sociahive.com/api/mcp, as a custom connector in Claude, sign in, and connect your self-hosted site with an application password. WordPress.com sites can use the WordPress.com MCP endpoint instead. Setup steps for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and others are on the connect pages.

Does the WordPress MCP work with WordPress.com sites?

WordPress.com has its own hosted MCP server, available on its paid plans. SociaHive's connection does not support WordPress.com sites. It works with self-hosted WordPress 5.6 or newer over HTTPS, using an application password.

Do I need a plugin to use a WordPress MCP server?

Not with SociaHive. You create an application password in your WordPress profile and nothing is installed on your site. The official MCP Adapter is different: it is installed as a plugin and needs the Abilities API that arrived in WordPress 6.9.
