Pick one and watch it get built
To share a Facebook post to Instagram, add both accounts to the same Accounts Center, then tap the Instagram button under your name while you write the post and switch sharing on. It works in the Facebook app for iPhone and Android, not on a computer.
Facebook's switch is in the composer, so you choose before you publish. Below: posts, reels and stories, plus the Business Suite route for Pages and computers. For the wider picture, see the Instagram growth strategy.
Link Facebook and Instagram first
Sharing only works once your Facebook and Instagram accounts sit in the same Accounts Center. Facebook Help says you need this before you can share a post.
To add accounts, open Accounts Center, tap Accounts (or Manage accounts), then tap Add accounts and follow the prompts, per Meta Help Center. Facebook says you may see Meta Account settings instead of Accounts Center while it rolls out the change. You can only add one Facebook account, so to use a different one, remove the current one first.
How to share a Facebook post to Instagram
Open the Facebook app, tap What's on your mind?, tap the Instagram button below your name, switch sharing on, and post. These steps come from Facebook Help.
- Tap What's on your mind? at the top of your Feed.
- Tap Instagram, below your name.
- Turn on the toggle for one-time sharing to Instagram.
- Tap Close to save your choice.
- Tap Post to publish on Facebook and Instagram.
The Instagram button reads Off when a post can't be shared. Your Instagram privacy settings apply to the shared post.
How to share Facebook posts to Instagram automatically
To share every future post, open the same Instagram button, tap Accounts Center, and turn on the toggle next to Your Facebook posts. Facebook Help describes this path.
A post that can't be shared still shows Off, even with automatic sharing on. You can switch sharing off for any single post while composing it.
What you can and can't share
Some Facebook posts never reach Instagram. This is the list from Facebook Help:
| Post type | Shares to Instagram? |
|---|---|
| One photo or video | Yes |
| Up to 10 photos of the same size | Yes |
| More than 10 photos or multiple videos | No |
| Photos of different sizes | No |
| Text-only posts, live videos, reshares | No |
| Very tall or wide photos | Cropped slightly, or No |
If a carousel keeps failing, resize the photos to one shape first. The social media image resizer does that, and Instagram post sizes shows which ratios fit.

How to share a Facebook reel or story to Instagram
For a reel, tap Next when you are ready to post, tap Instagram, turn on the toggle next to your account, tap Close, then tap Share now. Facebook Help says a reel can only be shared when you create it, and only to one Instagram account.
Reels appear as reels on Instagram, and your Instagram privacy decides who sees them. A private account blocks reuse of the audio and remixing.
Stories work through the same linked accounts. According to Facebook Help, turning sharing on or off applies to everything currently in the story, and you can delete an item from Facebook only or from both apps.
Share from a computer or a Page with Meta Business Suite
For a computer, or a Page, use Meta Business Suite. Create a post, reel or story there; if your Page and Instagram account are connected, it publishes to both by default, and you can deselect one under Post to. Meta describes this, including a preview of both feeds.
If you want one calendar for Instagram feed posts and Facebook Pages, SociaHive's scheduler queues both, though not Stories or Reels. See how to schedule Facebook posts.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I share an Instagram post to Facebook?
Yes, from the Instagram app on iPhone or Android. Before sharing, tap Also share on... and turn on the toggle next to your Facebook Page, then tap Share. Instagram says the post appears in your Facebook Feed and profile, and its audience may differ from posts you write on Facebook (Instagram Help).
Why didn't my Facebook story share to Instagram?
First check that both accounts are in the same Accounts Center, then reopen the story's sharing setting, since it applies to every item in the story. Your Instagram privacy settings also apply to a story shared from Facebook. Sharing changes affect photos and videos already in the story.
Can I share a Facebook post to Instagram after posting?
Facebook's sharing switch lives in the composer, so turn it on while writing. For a post that is already published, upload the photo or video to Instagram yourself. Reels are stricter: Facebook says you can only share a reel at the moment you create it.
Can I share to more than one Instagram account?
Facebook reels go to one Instagram account at a time. If you have several, open Menu, then Settings & privacy, then Settings, then Accounts Center, tap Sharing across profiles, tap your Facebook account, and pick the Instagram account to use. Facebook documents this path for reels in its reel sharing help.
