You can download your own Facebook reels from the Options menu on your phone, and you cannot download anyone else's. Facebook's Help Center says so directly: you cannot download reels or videos created by others.

This guide covers the official routes for your own videos: the Download reel button, live videos, Page videos and a full copy of your account.

How to download a Facebook video you posted

Open your profile, tap Reels, choose the reel, tap Options and tap Download reel. The file is saved to your camera roll. Facebook's download page gives these steps for the iPhone and Android apps, and says the feature is not available on computers.

  1. Open the Facebook app and tap your profile picture in the top left.
  2. Tap Reels, next to Photos.
  3. Tap the reel you want to download.
  4. Tap Options.
  5. Tap Download reel.

Which Facebook videos can you download?

Only reels you posted yourself after September 2025 get the Download reel button. Facebook explains that all videos posted from the end of September 2025 are shared as reels, whatever their length or orientation, so any video you upload now counts.

Videos you posted before then are "legacy videos". Facebook says their download options have not changed: if you could not download a video before, you cannot now. Reels and videos made by other people are never downloadable.

Download a Facebook live video on a computer

A finished live video can be downloaded on a computer, as long as you have not deleted it. Facebook's live video page says the video posts to your timeline and your video library once the stream ends.

Log in on a computer, click your profile picture in the top left, then click Reels and pick the video from your library. Click the menu in the top right and choose Download Video.

If the download does not start, Facebook says your browser refreshes; open the menu again and click Download.

Download all your Facebook videos at once

To get every video you have uploaded, export your account data. In Facebook's export steps, go to Settings & privacy, then Settings, then Meta Account, Your information and permissions, and Export your information. Click Create export, choose your profile and select Export to device.

You can pick the date range, the format and the media quality; high-quality video makes the files larger. When the export is ready you have 4 days to download it from the Available downloads section.

Download videos from a Facebook Page

If you have Facebook access with full control of a Page, you can download a copy of it. Facebook's Page download page says to switch into the Page, open Settings & privacy, then Settings, and choose Download your information.

Select the file format, the quality of photos, videos and other media, and a date range, then click Request a download. The link to your file expires after 4 days.

What you can do with other people's videos

Facebook provides no download button for videos you did not post, and its terms limit what you can do with them, so use the routes below instead. The Terms of Service forbid sharing content that infringes someone else's intellectual property rights, and forbid collecting data from Facebook by automated means without permission.

To repost your own downloaded reel on another app, check its size first in vertical video dimensions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are downloaded Facebook videos saved?

A reel saved with Download reel goes to your phone's camera roll. A data export arrives as a file from the Available downloads section of the Export your information tool. In HTML format it is a ZIP containing an index file you open in your browser, with folders holding your images and videos; JSON format is machine readable.

Why is the reel I downloaded muted?

Facebook mutes the audio when your reel uses someone else's original audio or is a remix of a reel with original audio. If it contains licensed music, the audio may be muted or only partly included, depending on the music's length and your country's music rights.

Why can't I download my own older Facebook video?

Videos posted before September 2025 are legacy videos, and Facebook says their download options have not changed: if you could not download one before, you cannot now. Your account export is the fallback, since it covers content you have shared and lets you choose media quality.

Is it okay to repost someone else's Facebook video?

Only with the owner's permission. Facebook's terms forbid sharing content that infringes another person's intellectual property rights, including copyright. Ask the owner for the original file, or use Facebook's share button, which keeps the video on Facebook and does not make a copy you can re-upload elsewhere.
