Pick one and watch it get built
To post a video on Facebook from a computer, go to your profile, click Reels, click Create reel, add your video and click Publish. Facebook now shares every video you post as a reel, so there is no separate "video, not a reel" option.
Below: the steps on a computer and in the app, what the reel change means, the file specs Facebook lists, and what to check when an upload fails.
How to post a video on Facebook from a computer
These are the steps from Facebook's help page on creating a reel, which is also how you upload an ordinary video now.
- Click your profile picture in the top right of Facebook, then click your name.
- Click Reels, then click Create reel.
- Click Add video, select a video on your computer and click Next.
- Trim the video, add a description or hashtags, or pick a cover image if you want.
- Click Next, then click your current audience and choose who can see it.
- Switch remixing on or off.
- Click Publish.
Facebook's audience options include Public (anyone, including people off Facebook), Friends, and Friends except. If your profile is locked, you cannot choose Public.
How to post a video on Facebook from the app
On iPhone and Android, Facebook's help page for posting a video to a Page gives these steps. Switch into the Page first.
- Tap Menu in the top left of Facebook, or your profile picture.
- Tap Options, then select the Page you want to switch into.
- Tap What's on your mind? at the top of your Feed.
- Tap Photo/video.
- Choose a video and tap Next, or tap Record video.
- Tap the video to edit it with in-app tools, then tap Next.
- Choose your post settings, then tap Post now.
Facebook says effects, music and multi-clip reels are available only in the app, not on a computer.
Is every video on Facebook a reel now?
Yes. Meta's Business Help Center says that all videos posted to Facebook are now shared as reels, and that reels can be any length or orientation. The Videos tab was renamed the Reels tab in June 2025.
Meta announced the change on June 17, 2025 and said it would roll out gradually over several months. Stories and Live are the exceptions, according to Facebook's help page.
File specs Facebook lists for reels

| Recommended format | .mp4 |
| Recommended resolution | 1080p |
| Recommended video codec | H.264, H.265 |

What to do when a Facebook video will not upload
The usual cause is a file outside Facebook's specs or an unstable connection. Compare your file with the table above first.
- Unsupported codec or audio. Re-export as .mp4 with H.264 video and AAC stereo audio, then upload again.
- Weak connection. Switch to Wi-Fi and keep the app open until the upload finishes.
- Old app version. Update Facebook from the App Store or Google Play.
- Posting as a Page. Make sure you switched into the Page and have access to it.
- Copyright or standards problem. Reel content must comply with Facebook's Privacy Policy, Community Standards and Terms of Use, so a video with someone else's music or footage can be blocked.
Scheduling a Facebook video instead of posting now
Plan Page videos ahead with Meta Business Suite; the Facebook scheduling guide walks through it. SociaHive's scheduler also schedules Facebook Page posts, though not Facebook Stories or Groups.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I edit a video on my Facebook Page after posting?
Switch into the Page, scroll to the video or reel, click Options at the top right and click Edit post. You can edit closed captions, audio descriptions or text transcripts, then click Next to change the post audience and click Save. Pages with task access can edit in Meta Business Suite instead.
Can I add a title, captions or a thumbnail to a Page video?
Yes, on a computer. When you upload or edit a Page video, click Video Options to add a title and tags, turn on auto-generated captions or upload your own .srt file, and choose a thumbnail. You can use the suggested one, upload an image, or pick a frame from the video.
What happens to a reel if I make it private?
Only the audience you chose can see it, and people outside it cannot share it or reuse its original audio. Facebook says that if you change a reel from public to private, any content that already reused your audio is muted for people who are not in your audience.
Which video formats can I upload to Facebook?
Facebook recommends MP4 or MOV, and its help page lists many more, including AVI, WMV, MKV, MPEG and FLV. Reels have their own recommended settings, covered in the specs table above. If an upload fails, Facebook points to a separate troubleshooting page for video uploads.
Can I post a video as a reel from a computer?
Yes. Facebook's computer steps let you upload a video as a reel, trim it, add a description, hashtags and cover, and publish. What a computer cannot do is advanced editing: effects, music and multi-clip reels need the Facebook app on iPhone or Android.
