Pick one and watch it get built

To collab on TikTok, tap Invite collaborators on the post screen before you publish, pick the people, and wait for them to accept. Once they do, the video shows on both profiles with a "Collaborated with" tag.

TikTok documents this on its TikTok for Artists help page and warns that the feature is not broadly available. If you do not see it, duets and stitches are the collab formats open to everyone.

How to create a collaboration post on TikTok

A TikTok collaboration post is one video that lives on more than one profile. You make the video, invite the other account before posting, and the video is shared once they accept.

  1. Create your video as usual.
  2. Tap Invite collaborators before you post.
  3. Choose the accounts you want to invite.
  4. Tap Done, then post.
  5. Wait for the invited account to accept.

The invitee gets the invitation in System Notifications and on the video itself. After they accept, TikTok adds a "Collaborated with @name" tag, and the video appears on both profiles.

What a collab post looks like after it goes live

After acceptance the video is displayed on both profiles and carries the collaborator tag. That is the point of the format: it reaches both audiences from one post, instead of two separate uploads.

TikTok's page gives no invite limit. During testing, Social Media Today reported in May 2024, citing code found in the app, that you could invite up to five creators, only the creator could edit the post, and invitees could decline or remove themselves. These are reported details, not TikTok's published rules.

Why you can't collab on TikTok

If Invite collaborators is missing, the likeliest reason is access. TikTok's page says the feature is not broadly available, so some artists may not have access. The help page sits in the artists help center, so access may be limited to certain accounts.

Duet and stitch: collabs anyone can do

A duet and a stitch let you build on someone else's video without an invitation, as long as they allow it. A duet plays both videos side by side in a split screen. A stitch uses a clip of theirs and then plays your reply.

Both follow the creator's Reuse of content setting, which means they can be switched off per video. The full steps, the settings and the fixes are in our guide to how to duet on TikTok. TikTok's Stitch page explains that setting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a collab post the same as tagging someone?

No. Tagging mentions an account in your caption. A collaboration post needs the other account to accept an invitation, and only then does the video appear on their profile with the "Collaborated with" tag. A plain tag never puts your video on their profile.

What is the difference between a collab and a duet?

A collab is one video shared between profiles after an invitation is accepted. A duet is a separate video you record next to someone else's, and it appears only on your profile. TikTok says the original stays on the original creator's profile.

Can the person I invite say no?

Yes. Social Media Today's report from app code says invitees approve being listed and can decline. TikTok's page describes the accepted case: the tag and the shared profile display appear only after the collaborator accepts, so an invitee who never responds does not get the video on their profile.

Can I invite someone after I have posted?

TikTok's documented steps put the invitation before you post: you tap Invite collaborators on the post screen, choose accounts, and tap Done. The help page describes no way to add a collaborator to a video that is already live, so start a collab from the post screen of a new video.
