Pick one and watch it get built
To repost on LinkedIn, click Repost under the post and choose either Repost (shares it as is) or Repost with your thoughts (adds your own text). To undo it, delete the repost from its More menu.
The steps are the same idea on desktop and mobile, per LinkedIn Help.
How to repost on LinkedIn
To repost a LinkedIn post, use the Repost button below it and pick one of two options. A plain repost goes live straight away. A repost with your thoughts opens a box for your comment first. LinkedIn Help describes both.
- Find the post and click Repost below it.
- Choose Repost to share it with no added text, or Repost with your thoughts to write your own.
- If you chose thoughts, write your message, or type @ to mention people, companies or schools.
- Open the dropdown next to your name, pick who can see the post under Who can see your post, then click Done.
- Click Post in the lower-right corner.
On the mobile app the order is the same. Tap Repost, pick an option, use the Anyone dropdown next to your name to set the audience, and tap Post in the upper-right corner.
With a plain repost there is no comment box and no Post button: it goes live at once, and a confirmation appears with a View post link. On mobile LinkedIn describes it as a new post with the original attached.
Repost vs repost with your thoughts
A plain repost puts someone else's post on your profile without comment. A repost with your thoughts puts your commentary on top, with the original underneath. Choose the second when you have something to add, such as why it matters or what you disagree with.
| Repost | Repost with your thoughts | |
|---|---|---|
| Adds your text | No | Yes, shown above the original |
| Audience setting in LinkedIn's steps | None | Chosen before posting |
| Good for | Quick endorsement | Context, a take, thanking the author |
When you repost a repost, your commentary sits at the top and the earlier repost's commentary shows beneath it. Readers can tap through to the original, per LinkedIn Help.
A line that names the author and says why you are sharing works better than "Great post!". If you are drafting that commentary from scratch, the LinkedIn post generator can give you a starting point.
How to undo a repost on LinkedIn
You undo a repost by deleting it. On desktop, click the More icon in the repost's upper-right corner, choose Delete post, and confirm in the "Delete post?" window. On mobile, tap More, then Delete post, then Delete. LinkedIn Help lists these steps.
LinkedIn says you can't change the visibility option after you've shared a post, so if you picked the wrong audience, delete the repost and do it again.
Who can see a repost on LinkedIn
With Repost with your thoughts, the audience is whatever you pick under "Who can see your post?". Set to Anyone, a post may appear on your connections' homepages, your followers' feeds, your Activity page, your public profile and sites off LinkedIn. Connections only limits it to your 1st-degree connections. To see who reposted a post, click the number of reposts on it.
Two more details from LinkedIn Help:
- Posts sent privately with Send do not appear in the list of people who reposted.
- Your reposts may be emailed to connections, depending on their email settings.

How to repost as a LinkedIn Page
To repost as a company Page, you must be a super admin of that Page. Open the Page's super admin view, click View as member, find the post and click Repost. In the dropdown next to your name, set Posting as to your Page, then click Post. LinkedIn Help lists these steps. Showcase pages are a separate Page type; see how to create a LinkedIn showcase page.
On mobile, go to the Page's super admin view, tap More, tap View as a member, then Posts, and tap Repost on the post. Choose Repost or Repost with your thoughts, set Posting as to your Page, and tap Post.
In the same dropdown you can also switch comment control on or off and label the post as a brand partnership. Page reposts come with one limit: LinkedIn Help for Pages says you cannot schedule reshares for a Page. If you want to line up your own posts rather than reposts, see how to schedule LinkedIn posts.
Why you can't repost a LinkedIn post
You can't repost when the post is not public or comes from a group. LinkedIn Help gives three reasons:
- The original was shared with connections only, so other members can't repost it.
- Posts from LinkedIn Groups can't be reposted.
- LinkedIn may restrict reposting posts from members you aren't connected with.
If the post is a good one and you still want to share it, use Send to message it to someone, or write your own post that credits the author. For something longer than a post, you can post an article on LinkedIn. To connect two people instead, see how to introduce people on LinkedIn.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I see who reposted my LinkedIn post?
Click the reposts count on the post, for example "12 reposts", and LinkedIn lists the people who reposted it. Posts that people shared privately with Send are not included in that list, so the count can be lower than the real number of times your post was passed around.
Can I change the audience of a repost after posting?
No. LinkedIn says you can't change the visibility option after you've shared a post. Delete the repost with the More icon and Delete post, then repost with the audience you want. Set the audience in the dropdown next to your name before you click Post, so you only do this once.
Do my connections get notified when I repost?
Possibly. LinkedIn Help says your reposts may be emailed to connections, depending on their email settings. The author can see you in the list under the reposts count. To make sure they notice, @mention them in a repost with your thoughts.
Can I repost without the original poster's caption showing?
No. LinkedIn Help says that reposting a link, photo or video includes the original poster's commentary. You can only add yours on top with Repost with your thoughts. If you want your own words only, write a new post and credit the author.
