How this actually works
The Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block includes full italic and bold-italic Latin alphabets, encoded so that mathematical variables can be distinguished in plain text. Each slanted letter is its own code point, so the slant is carried by the text rather than applied by the app.

- Italic digits do not exist in the block, so numbers stay upright.
