DM & Chat Link Generator
Generate direct message links for Instagram, WhatsApp, Messenger, and Telegram.
The Link Format for Each Platform
Every messaging platform exposes its own click-to-chat format. These are the four this tool builds.
Instagram uses ig.me/m/username. It opens a new DM thread. No pre-filled text is supported.
WhatsApp uses wa.me/ followed by your number in full international format with no plus sign, spaces or dashes. It accepts a pre-filled message with ?text= at the end.
Messenger uses m.me/yourpagename and opens a thread with your Facebook Page.
Telegram uses t.me/username, and supports a pre-filled message on some clients.
The pattern matters because a wrong separator or a stray plus sign is the difference between a working link and a dead one.
Where to Put a DM Link So It Gets Used
The link-in-bio slot is the obvious place, but it is rarely the best one. People who reach your bio are already on Instagram and can message you in two taps anyway.
DM links earn their keep off-platform: in your email signature, on your website contact page, in a Story link sticker, on a printed QR code, or in an ad. In each of those places the alternative is a contact form — and a form is a worse trade for the visitor, because they type into a void and wait for an email. A chat link puts them in a thread where they can see you reply.
What Happens After They Click
A DM link solves the first half of the problem and creates the second: someone is now in your inbox, expecting a person.
Instagram operates a 24-hour messaging window for automated replies, which means a business tool can respond freely for 24 hours after a customer messages you and is restricted after that. Practically, that means the useful automation is the immediate one — an instant acknowledgement, a menu of options, a question that qualifies the enquiry — rather than a follow-up days later. If you are sharing DM links at any volume, decide what the first reply says before you publish the link, not after the messages arrive.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a DM link?
A DM link is a URL that, when clicked, opens a direct message conversation on a specific platform. For Instagram, it uses ig.me/m/username. For WhatsApp, it uses wa.me/phonenumber.
Can I add a pre-filled message?
Yes. WhatsApp and Telegram support pre-filled messages in the link. When someone clicks, the chat opens with your message already typed — they just need to hit send.
How do I generate an Instagram DM link?
Enter your Instagram username above and the tool builds the link for you. The format is ig.me/m/yourusername — when someone opens it on a phone with Instagram installed, it opens a direct message thread with your account rather than your profile page.
Is there a link to DM someone on Instagram?
Yes, but only to start a thread with an account, not to jump into an existing conversation. The ig.me/m/ format opens a new message to the username in the link. There is no supported way to pre-fill the message text on Instagram — that is a WhatsApp and Telegram capability, not an Instagram one.
Do DM links work on desktop?
Partially. On desktop, an ig.me link opens Instagram on the web and, if you are logged in, lands you in the inbox with that account. The experience is much cleaner on mobile, where the app intercepts the link and opens the thread directly. Since most people click these from a phone, that is usually fine.
Why is my Instagram DM link not working?
Three common causes. The username is wrong or has a stray @ in it — the link takes the handle only. The account is private, so a stranger cannot open a thread. Or the person clicking is not logged into Instagram, in which case they hit a login wall first. Test the finished link in a private browser window before you publish it anywhere.
