How hashtags work on Bluesky
Bluesky turns any word that starts with # into a tappable tag. Tapping it opens the posts that use the same tag, which is how people browse a topic outside their own timeline.
Custom feeds matter more on Bluesky than on most networks. Anyone can build a feed, and many collect posts about one subject, often by looking for a tag or keyword. A well-chosen hashtag can put your post into a feed that people interested in that subject read every day.
People can also mute words and tags. Tags that describe your post honestly reach the people who want them; tags added for reach can just as easily hide the post from people who muted them.
Picking tags for a 300-character post
This generator gives you 15 ideas in three groups. The broad group names the general topic, the topic group is specific to your niche, and the community group holds the smaller tags that groups on Bluesky gather around. Most posts need one tag from the community or topic group, not one from each.
Bluesky counts characters the way you see them, so an emoji is one character, unlike X where it counts as two. Hashtags still use part of your 300 characters, so write the post first and add the tag that fits.

Posting the same update to Bluesky and X
Many people post the same news to Bluesky and X. The limits differ (300 characters on Bluesky, 280 on X) and so do the communities, so a hashtag that works on one may not exist on the other. Check the tag on each network before posting.
If you schedule both from SociaHive, you can adjust the text and tags for each platform in the same post, and each version is checked against that platform's limit.
