How this actually works
True Wingdings works by swapping the glyphs a font draws for ordinary letters: the underlying text is still "a", it just looks like ✌ while the Wingdings font is applied. Remove the font and it reverts. This tool substitutes actual Unicode characters that resemble each Wingdings glyph position, so the symbols are part of the text itself and cannot revert.
Where it breaks
- It is a look-alike, not a byte-for-byte Wingdings match. Some glyphs have no close Unicode equivalent and a nearby symbol is used instead.
- A few of the substitutes are emoji, so they will render in colour on phones and in monochrome on some desktops.
- Digits are passed through unchanged — Wingdings maps them to symbols that have no dependable Unicode counterpart.

Why does real Wingdings turn back into letters when I paste it?
Because Wingdings is a font. The characters underneath are ordinary letters, so the moment the text lands somewhere that does not apply the Wingdings font, it shows those letters again. Unicode symbols do not have that problem.
Is this the same as the Wingdings font?
Not exactly. Each letter is mapped to the closest real Unicode character to its Wingdings glyph. It looks very similar and, unlike the font, it survives copy-paste into Instagram, Discord or a browser.
Can I use these symbols in my Instagram bio?
