Pick one and watch it get built
You make money on Snapchat Spotlight through Snap's invite-only Monetization Program, which pays creators a share of ad revenue. The old Spotlight Rewards program, with its daily payouts, ended on January 31, 2025.
To be invited you need 50,000 followers, Snap Star status and heavy recent view time. Meeting the numbers makes you eligible for an invitation, not entitled to one.
How to get paid for Spotlight videos
Snap lists no application for the Monetization Program. It reviews creators regularly and emails the address on the account if it invites one. These steps get you in position.
- Apply for Snap Star verification through the form Snap links from its Snap Star page.
- Grow to at least 50,000 followers.
- Reach 15,000 hours of view time over the last 28 days, with at least 3,000 of those hours from Spotlight.
- Post original, advertiser-friendly content that follows the Community Guidelines.
- Make Spotlight videos at least 30 seconds long, since shorter ones do not earn revenue.
- Keep your account email current and watch for the invitation.
Snap lists these in About Snapchat's Monetization Program. You must also be 18 or the age of legal majority, live in an eligible country, and follow the Monetization Terms and Creator Monetization Policy.
Snapchat Spotlight monetization requirements
Here are the programs Snap runs today, side by side.
| Program | Who it is for | Key requirements |
|---|---|---|
| Monetization Program | Established creators | Invite only, 50,000 followers, 15,000 view hours in 28 days (3,000 from Spotlight), Snap Star, age 18+ |
| Lens Creator Rewards | Lens makers | No follower minimum, public Lens, age 18+, 15,000 Qualified Posters within 90 days |
| Brand partnerships | Monetization-eligible creators | Brands may find your Public Profile and invite you to partner |
On brand partnerships, Snap says that if you are eligible for monetization, brands may discover your Public Profile and invite you to partner.
Older guides quote thresholds like 10 million Snap views, 1 million Spotlight views or 12,000 view hours, plus 25 posts a month. Those came from Snap's December 2024 announcement. The help page above is the current list and does not include them.
How much does Snapchat Spotlight pay?
Snap publishes no per-view rate. Ads are shown between Snaps in a Public Story or inside a Spotlight, and creators in the program receive a share of that revenue, served mainly by how long people watch your Stories and Spotlights.
That is why there is no per-1,000-views rate to quote: the payout follows watch time, not view count.
One date matters for current members. From May 7, 2026, Snap says you need at least 100 hours of Total Spotlight View Time over the last 28 days to qualify for maximum Creator Rewards. You can track it under Daily Rewards Eligibility at the top of Insights.
How do Snapchat payouts work?
Rewards show as Pending for 14 days, then become Available. You cash out from the Creator Rewards Hub (Profile, then My Creator Rewards), and you need at least $100 USD available to start a payment.
Cash out sends your available rewards to the Snapchat Payout Portal through Hyperwallet, which typically takes another 14 days or longer. You then withdraw by bank account, PayPal or other options, and the payment provider charges fees that depend on the method and any currency conversion.
Onboarding needs a W-9 if you are in the US or a W-8 if you are not. Snap lists payouts in 37 countries, including the US, UK, Canada, Australia, India and Brazil. If a balance stays unchanged for a year or uncashed for two, Snap pays it out for you, but only when you have $100 available, are onboarded and are in good standing. Otherwise those rewards are no longer payable.

What if you are not eligible yet?
Two routes need no follower count. Lens Creator Rewards has no minimum follower count and no publishing requirements, though your Lens must be public, approved and reach 15,000 Qualified Posters in a qualified region within 90 days. Creators must be 18 and in an eligible country.
Outside Snap's programs, you can pitch brands directly. The influencer pricing calculator gives a starting rate, and making money on Instagram covers pitching. Snap Star status is one requirement for the Monetization Program, so read what a Snap Star is first.
Why was my Snapchat reward lower or missing?
Rewards can be reduced or invalidated. Snap says they depend on ongoing compliance with its guidelines and terms, and that non-compliance may invalidate pending or available rewards. Check these first:
- Spotlight videos under 30 seconds earn no ad revenue.
- Below 100 Spotlight view hours in 28 days, you no longer qualify for maximum rewards since May 7, 2026.
- The rewards are still Pending, which lasts 14 days.
- You have not reached the $100 needed to cash out.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can you still make money on Snapchat Spotlight without 50,000 followers?
Not through the Monetization Program, which asks for 50,000 followers. The old Spotlight Rewards program had a 1,000 follower minimum but closed on January 31, 2025. Lens Creator Rewards has no follower minimum, and you can work with brands directly without any Snap program.
Who is the highest paid Snapchatter?
Snap does not publish earnings for individual creators, so no source can name one reliably. Lists you see online come from estimates or creators' own claims. Snap's help pages describe how payouts work but give no leaderboard, and the amount any creator earns depends on their watch time and ad demand.
Does Snapchat pay for 1 million views?
Snap does not set a price per view or per million views. Ad revenue shared with eligible creators depends mainly on watch time, so a million views of short, quickly skipped videos can earn less than fewer views of long watched ones. Spotlight videos must also be at least 30 seconds to earn anything.
Is the Snapchat Monetization Program free to join?
Yes. Snap says it charges no fees and accepts no payment for invitations, and no third party controls eligibility. If a third party promises an invitation in exchange for payment, Snap says it is not affiliated with, or authorized to act for, Snap in any way.
