How to bold a Facebook post

1. Type the words you want bold in the box above.

2. Copy the bold result.

3. In Facebook, start your post, paste the bold words where you want them, and type the rest normally.

You can mix bold and plain text in one post. A common pattern is a bold first line, so the hook stands out before the "See more" cut, followed by plain text that reads and searches normally.

Why Facebook has no bold button

Facebook shows posts, comments and profile fields in your device's system font and gives you no formatting controls. What you paste from this tool is not formatting: each letter is replaced by a separate Unicode character from the mathematical bold alphabet, which looks bold on its own.

That is why it survives copy and paste, and why it works on Pages, groups and profiles alike. It is also why it has limits: it covers letters and digits, not punctuation, and it is not ordinary text for search or screen readers.

Where it works on Facebook

Posts, comments, Page posts, Messenger messages and your 101-character intro all accept bold Unicode. Your profile name and username do not.

Use it for emphasis, not decoration. A bold headline, a bold price or a bold date helps a reader scan a long post. A post written entirely in bold is harder to read, and people using screen readers may hear nothing useful at all.

Questions

How do I make text bold in a Facebook post?

Facebook has no bold button for regular posts, so you paste bold characters instead. Type your text in the box above, copy the bold version, and paste it into the post. Each letter is a bold Unicode character, so it shows bold on phones and computers without any setting.

Does bold text work in Facebook comments?

Yes. Comments, posts, Page posts and your profile intro are plain text fields that accept the bold characters as they are. Use them for a word or a short line rather than a whole post.

Can I use bold letters in my Facebook name?

No. Facebook's name rules do not allow symbols or unusual characters in profile names, so a bold name will be refused. Your username (5 to 50 letters, numbers and periods) does not accept them either.

Will bold text hurt my post?

There is no evidence it lowers reach, but it has two real costs. Screen readers read these characters badly or skip them, and Facebook search does not match them against plain words, so a styled keyword is not found. Keep the important words plain.

Why does my bold text show as boxes?

The device viewing the post has no glyph for those characters. Bold from the mathematical Unicode block is supported on almost every modern device, so this is rare, and it happens far more with decorative styles than with plain bold.

Can I copy the same bold text to X or Instagram?

Yes, it pastes anywhere text can go. On X it counts as more characters than it looks: most of these letters count as 2, so a bold line uses the limit twice as fast.
