Pick one and watch it get built

To hide likes on your own post, tap More options on the last screen before you share and turn on "Hide like counts on this post". On a post you already shared, tap Options and choose "Hide like count to others". You can also hide counts on other people's posts, and separately hide the posts you have liked.

"Hide likes" means three different things on Instagram, each with its own setting, as described in Instagram Help.

What you wantWhere the setting livesWho it affects
Hide the like count on your postMore options before sharing, or Options on the live postEveryone except you
Hide like counts on posts you scroll pastMenu, Like and share countsOnly what you see
Hide the posts you have likedMenu, Likes you've madeWho can see your likes

How to hide likes on your own post before you share it

Turn on "Hide like counts on this post" in More options on the last screen before you share. Instagram Help gives these steps for the phone app.

  1. Start a new post and go to the screen where you write the caption.
  2. Tap More options at the bottom.
  3. Turn on Hide like counts on this post.
  4. Tap Share.

You still see the total number of likes on your own post. Only other people lose the count. On a computer the switch is called "Hide like and view counts on this post" under Advanced settings, so the view count is hidden as well.

How to hide likes on a post you already shared

Tap Options in the top right of the post, then tap "Hide like count to others". On a computer, click Options, then "Hide like count". The same menu has "Unhide like count to others" to bring it back. Both steps are in Instagram Help.

Reels have their own menu. According to Instagram Help on managing reels, open the reel, tap Options, tap Manage, then tap Hide likes to stop others seeing how many people liked it.

How to hide like counts on other people's posts

To stop seeing like counts on posts and reels from other accounts, go to your profile, tap Menu, tap Like and share counts under What you see, and switch on "Hide like & share counts". Instagram Help lists this path for the phone app.

On a computer, click More in the bottom left, then Settings, then Like and share counts. This setting changes your own feed only. It does not hide anyone's counts from anyone else, and hiding the counts on your posts does not change what you see on theirs.

How to hide the posts you have liked

Go to your profile, tap Menu, tap "Likes you've made", and choose who can see your likes: everyone, people you follow, close friends, or no one. This is the answer if you searched "how to hide what I liked". The steps are in Instagram Help.

One exception catches people out. Whichever option you choose, the account that posted the content can still see that you liked it. You can always see your own likes, including in Your Activity.

If you hide counts to take the pressure off a post, you can still judge it by engagement rate, which uses likes, comments and followers. For what drives reach in the first place, see the Instagram algorithm guide and the wider Instagram growth strategy.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I show like counts again?

Open the post, tap Options, and choose "Unhide like count to others". For counts on other people's posts, go to Menu, then Like and share counts, and switch off "Hide like & share counts". Nothing was deleted when you hid them, so the number comes straight back. Both settings are described by Instagram Help.

Can followers see my liked reels?

It depends on "Likes you've made". If it is set to everyone, anyone can see what you like on other people's posts and reels. Set it to no one and only you can. Whatever you pick, the account that posted the reel can still see your like, according to Instagram Help.

Can I hide my likes from specific people?

Not person by person. Instagram offers four options under "Likes you've made": everyone, people you follow, close friends, or no one. To show your likes to a chosen few, build a Close friends list and pick that option. The poster of the content always sees your like, per Instagram Help.

How do I remove my likes from many posts at once?

On a computer, click Menu, then Your Activity, then Interactions, then Likes. Click Select, choose the posts, and click Unlike. You can sort and filter first. Instagram notes that a post its owner deleted will not appear in this list, per its help page on removing likes.

Can I hide likes on Threads?

Yes. Tap the menu next to your post and choose "Hide like and share counts" to hide likes, views, reposts and quotes from others. To hide them on posts you see, go to Settings, then Content preferences, then Hide like and share counts. Instagram describes both in its Threads help article.
